RATIONALE

The subject of the possibility of sustaining life on another planet is an ever growing topic in today’s society. Research is continually being conducted to support the idea that Mars could support human life. Students will have the opportunity to reflect upon factors required to sustain life on another planet. Our unit plan will allow grade 6 students to gain knowledge to answer the question of “Is it possible to survive on another planet?” and furthermore “Why is Mars the most suitable option?”. Students will pull from a variety of different sources and work together to answer these questions. Students will have the opportunity to reflect upon their own research as well as ongoing research conducted by experts.

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Collect, analyze and present data

  • Create and reflect upon hypotheses made

  • Respond to different forms of media

  • Tell a story through visual illustration

  • Apply their research to current events using critical thinking and problem solving

  • Consult with experts to reinforce ideas

  • Showcase their strengths in a variety of different challenges
